Cellulite

What is cellulite?
In Medicine, we understand a given area cellulite body inflammation subcutaneous tissue, ie, the layer of tissue immediately beneath the skin and consisting mainly of fat cells. It usually manifests itself as a painful red area hot, swollen, and occurs usually by infection by bacteria entering the area through a break in the skin.
This is not the most popular disease and this concept that we will develop in this article, but it defines as cellulite localized fat accumulation with changes in the texture of the surface subcutaneous tissues, characterized by "padding" the skin , it has been called "orange peel". This is therefore a series of irregularities that appear on the skin as a result of pushing out the fat, but the skin is retained by walls that hold leading to this aspect so characteristic.
It is usually located on the thighs (the classic "holsters"), buttocks and hips, but also in the knees, legs, lower back and even neck, producing the so-called "buffalo hump".
Social importance and significance of the problem
Although from a strictly medical point of view is not a disease, cellulite can negatively influence the quality of life and welfare of the people who have. It is known that social and cultural factors relate in any way to modes of ill. The implication of these factors on the aesthetic values, personal values, self perception and the role assigned to the body is beyond doubt.
Cellulite affects more than 90% of women, not only obese, as it also appears in lean women. Usually begins at puberty, when estrogen or female sex hormones appear, as this process seems to have a hormonal origin (we know that sex hormones determine the distribution of fat cells in the body).
Why it occurs?
Primarily by genetic and hormonal causes. It affects, as we have seen, women and focuses on the areas where they accumulate as much fat. Also influenced by other factors, among which we quote:
  • poor blood circulation
  • psychological factors such as stress , mood disorders, family conflicts or labor
  • Lifestyle: Lack of exercise or sleep, poor diet, digestive disorders
  • snuff consumption
  • the consumption of certain drugs, such as anovulatory and corticoids .
How can it be prevented?
Once it appears, cellulite is very difficult to remove completely, so prevention of this problem becomes critical.
Exercise to improve blood circulation and prevent excess weight are the best measures to prevent it. It is essential for maintaining a series of healthy or unhealthy habits. Within food, the key is not so much thin (you may lose kilos and not lose cellulite) and follow a diet low in fat.
Among the most effective sports to prevent this problem include swimming, soft racing, cycling and aerobics, provided it is practiced regularly. Other physical activities like skating, dancing, climbing stairs or walking fast at least half an hour every day can be useful step.
Other measures have been proposed to prevent cellulite, improve circulation that are:
  • lift and stretch your legs often
  • avoid too tight clothes and high heels
  • flee from any excessive heat
  • no smoking, no alcohol
  • sitting or sleeping with feet slightly elevated
  • get used to the showers alternating cold and heat, especially in the legs
  • unable to stand without walking long
  • not cross your legs, as the movement is compressed.
Medical treatments
They are designed for evolutionary cellulite and localized phase in a given area treatments. The most widespread is mesotherapy, which involves the injection of a substance or preparation doctor "dissolves" fat slightly to make it easier to remove. This technique is contraindicated in case of vascular problems . Often multiple sessions are accurate and should always be monitored and controlled by a doctor.
Surgical Treatments
They are mainly used to treat cellulite at an advanced stage, and when he did not respond to general measures and medical treatments. Liposuction is best known for removing localized fat accumulations technique. Other similar techniques are lipoplasty, liposuction, superficial liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction.
Basically, liposuction is the removal of fat through a cannula through small incisions in the skin. Different variations of the technique are established in relation to:
Anyway, all these techniques help improve the body contour by removing, without scars, fat or fat deposits isolated.
There are two possible sets of complications of these techniques:
  • the gauge of the cannula, which can be of varying diameter
  • the depth to which liposuction is done: deep or shallow
  • the method by which the vacuum to the aspiration becomes: syringe or liposuctor,
  • ultrasonic liposuction, when also using an apparatus which produces ultrasonic vacuum is used to break the membrane of the fat cell (adipocyte) and thereby facilitate the removal thereof.
Beauty treatments and cosmetics
Apply beauty centers and are often effective against emerging cellulite. Its basic objective is to mobilize the surface fat, stimulate lymphatic drainage and blood circulation.
There are many treatments and products used for this purpose, of which just mention the following:
  • Transdermal Massage: consists of performing a massage rollers in the affected areas.
  • Lymphatic drainage: is used in cases of fluid retention in the area, and consists of light pressure in the area round down basis. They serve to remove accumulated lymph.
  • Electrolipolysis: involves the application of microcurrent through electrode plates with low intensity jogging fat to be removed from the affected area.
  • Pressure Therapy: A massage by a kind of boots that reach the waist and pressing and gradually ascending venous and lymphatic circulation, improving drainage.
  • Algae or clay plasters: placed on the affected area. Minerals and trace elements have detoxifying properties. They serve only in cases of incipient cellulite or to complement other treatments.
  • Thermotherapy: involves the application of heat by means of baths, bandages or sludge. It is not advisable for people with low voltage.
  • Hydrotherapy: is the projection of water jets pressure on areas with cellulite.
  • Application of essential oils such as geranium, mint and angelica, for their properties dilating blood vessels.
  • Anti-cellulite products in different formulations: there are many, more or less proven and which may be suitable in the initial stages of cellulite or in addition to the already mentioned treatments.
What treatments are available?
There are currently 3 main types of treatment for this problem, often complementary: medical, surgical and cosmetic treatment or cosmetic treatment.
